As a gold Eco church we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible. One area we are looking at again is reducing the amount of food wasted and also dealing with any remaining food in the most environmentally beneficial way possible. Composting through the council recycling scheme seems a good practical option and the one we currently choose. As a church, in line with businesses, we cannot participate in the scheme so need to take the bags to home kerbside caddies. Currently, to my knowledge, there are just two members of the church who do this.
The purpose of this message is to make you aware of our current practice and to ask for more volunteers to occasionally take a bag of food waste home!! You do not need to sign up to it, there is no rota, just check the two kitchen food bins, (a small one on the surface and a large one on the floor to the right of the sinks). Ask me, Kate or anyone in the kitchen to show you the bins if in doubt.
