What are they made into?

Blister packs are very hard to recycle as they contain mixed materials. They have in the past been regarded as ‘unrecyclable’ along with various other mixed plastic types.
We realise this can’t go on! We use these items and are responsible for them as waste. We therefore pay to have them collected and recycled by a company called ‘Refactory’, rather than incinerated or sent to landfill.
This information is taken from Refactory’s website:
In a special process, at a purpose-built facility in Hull, the blister packs are shredded and made into a type of board (called MyboardTM). This is a versatile replacement for plyboard, and can be used indoors or out. It can be made into furniture such as park benches, tables and chairs, plant containers, litter bins, outdoor toys and notice boards.
How are our blister packs made into new construction board?
The MYboard™ process is as follows: “The plastic material, once shredded, is sent to our blending area where it is combined with a mixture of polymers from ocean cleans, verge cleans, food and cosmetic wastes. Lastly, the materials are bonded into a board at high temperature (230o C). The board can then be placed back into use or made into a new product on site’.
Examples show recycled board in use for a flower trough and outdoor toys and samples of the finishes available.
